Rising Above the Negativity

We live in an increasingly negative culture and it’s easy to be dragged down with all the discouraging and depressing events that flood our hearts and overwhelm our minds. As Christians we have to demonstrate the positive power of the Gospel in our lives. But how is this possible? How do we maintain a positive life and witness in the face of so much negativity? God desires us to say “no” to negativity and “yes” to positivity. A positive perspective requires more than seeing a glass as half full, it requires seeing the glass overflowing with God’s love, grace, joy, and peace. You can experience this type of Godly positivity, this requires inner change, practice, and self discipline.

“Resist negative thoughts, assist positive thoughts.” -Vladimir Savchuk

5 keys to help you overcome negativity:

1. Attitude of gratitude

Celebrate the process. A attitude of gratitude will help you do everything in life far better than a critical, judgemental, and negative attitude. The Bible commands us to “give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” 1 Thessalonians 5:18. Right now, wherever you are and no matter what you’re facing, you have the choice to be or not be, grateful. You alone are in charge of your attitude. When you trust God with things you can’t change, and focus on what you can change, your attitude and everything about you will change.

2. Quiet time with God

Having alone time with God and being able to collect our thoughts in a peaceful state of mind is very important. Romans 12:2 “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind…” Ask God to focus your mind and heart fully on Him, this means minimizing your distractions. Make sure you’re taking time to listen as God whispers over and over how much He loves you and how precious you are to Him. Seek the truth of His precious Word, let them sink deep into your heart so that you may not only believe them but live them out every single day.

3. Read your Bible

Reading the Bible helps us to renew our minds so we can know God’s will. The Bible is our final authority, it allows us to be certain of what God says. John 17:17 “Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.” When you find yourself in negativity remember what the Bible tells us. Be strong and courageous, do not be afraid, do not be discouraged, for the Lord God will be with you wherever you go. Pray before you begin to read the Bible. Ask God for guidance and the ability to understand and apply His will to your life. Give God full access to your heart, let him saturate your soul with His love, grace, and mercy.

4. Focus on your purpose

Job 42:2 “I know that you can do everything, and that no purpose of Yours can be withheld from You.” God calls us to focus. To keep our eyes on Christ. You’ve been put on the planet for an important reason. You’ve gotten as far as you have by the Grace of God and focusing on what you have been called to do. Don’t look to the left. Don’t look to the right. Just stay grounded on your path. When you stay focused on your purpose, not your problem you can be happy even when life seems to be falling a part.

Greatness depends on your ability to deal with negativity.

5. Wear a smile on your face

Proverbs 15:13 Promises us that “A glad heart makes a cheerful face.” Let your inner light shine, be cheerful and you’ll see the light in every face that cheerfully reflects your light back at you. Smile because we are loved unconditionally, because we have hope beyond our circumstances, and because greater is Jesus within us. Smile today, child of God… you are truly BLESSED.

It’s time to rise above those negative thoughts and believe what God says about you.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I praise Your Holy name. Embrace me with your love so that my mind can be at ease. Break every chain of negative thoughts and speak prosperity and positivity into my life. I declare that every stronghold in my life produced by negative thought patterns are broken in Jesus mighty name!
