3 Types of Worship

We are created for WORSHIP (See Isaiah 43:7). Our worship and praise belongs to God as your phone belongs to you (See Malachi 1:6; Isaiah 42:8). We were created to give worship, but not to receive it. When we do not give worship, it destroys us. The Hebrew word “kabad” means weight, heaviness, honor, and glory. Worship is a weight we are not designed to carry. Its no wonder Lucifer took worship instead of giving it, it turned him into Satan. Nebuchadnezzar became an animal. Herod got eaten by worms. When we don’t give due praise to God, it destroys us but when we worship God, we become more like Him. We become what we worship.

There are three types of worship. Idol worship, idle worship, and ideal worship. Click To Tweet

Idol worship. When we worship something or someone other than God. Idols are dead, and when we worship idols we become like them.

Idle worship. When we worship God with lips only. This worship is not pleasing to God since it does not have our heart involved. Pharisees worshipped like that with their words but their heart was distant from God.

Ideal worship. When we worship the Father in Spirit and in truth. Trinity is involved in worship. We worship the Father in the Spirit and in the Truth. We know that Jesus is the truth.

What does it mean to worship the Father in truth? We have to start with when worship was first mentioned in the Bible. And Abraham said to his young men, “Stay here with the donkey; the lad and I will go yonder and worship, and we will come back to you.” Genesis 22:5. When Abraham went to worship there was no team, instruments, or even songs. Worship is not songs and music but obedience. Obedience is about approaching God on His terms. Abraham offered a sacrifice God provided, and God was pleased. When we worship, God wants us to approach Him on His terms.

Worship is obedience, obedience is coming to God through Christ.
