Sermon Notes
The sermon emphasized that every believer is called to fulfill the Great Commission, as outlined in Matthew 28:19-20. Jesus gave this mission to His disciples, calling them to bear fruit by making more disciples. This mission is universal yet unique, tailored to each individual through specific opportunities that God presents.
- The Call: Just as Jesus prioritized His Father’s business (Luke 2:49), we are called to respond to God’s invitation with obedience and self-denial, as seen in the contrast between Jesus and the rich young ruler (Mark 10:17-22).
- Sacrifice and Obedience: Being about the Father’s business requires surrendering our fears, comforts, and comparisons. Esther’s willingness to act (Esther 4:14) and Samuel’s reminder that obedience is better than sacrifice (1 Samuel 15:22) highlight the importance of saying “yes” to God’s call.
- Bearing Fruit: God has chosen and appointed each of us to bear lasting fruit (John 15:16). The gifts and opportunities He provides are uniquely designed for us, and rejecting them may mean someone else will take up the mission.
- The Training: Discipleship serves as the training ground for our mission. Just as training prepares soldiers for battle, our spiritual growth often involves pruning and challenges (Luke 3:9, Job 13:15).
