You Can’t Burn Without Oil

Oil – The Necessity of Daily Encounters

Growing up in church, I learned that Pentecost is not a religion; it is an experience. Religion can leave you informed, but Pentecost leaves you transformed. Religion tells you about God but Pentecost allows you to encounter Him. My prayer today is that you would encounter the fire and power of the Lord Jesus Christ.

“And the fire on the altar shall be kept burning on it; it shall not be put out. And the priest shall burn wood on it every morning, and lay the burnt offering in order on it; and he shall burn on it the gat of the peace offerings. A fire shall always be burning on the altar; it shall never go out.” – Leviticus 6:12-13

Just like a lamp or fire needs oil to keep burning, we need the Holy Spirit in our lives – not just occasionally but continually. A lamp that will burn out if no fresh oil is added, we will start to drift away if we don’t have daily encounters with God.

As in the old saying: “Don’t let the bully steal your lunch money,” we should not let the devil steal our lunch money, steal our joy, our peace, our strength. We need to stand our ground.

The devil can steal from us if we do not have a prayer life.

Too many believers are walking around spiritually broke – because the enemy keeps stealing their peace, their joy, their strength.

Prayer is like daily food for your spirit. As skipping meals weakens your body, skipping prayer weakens your soul. If you are not spiritually fed, you become emotionally led.

1.) When You Don’t Pray, You Drift

Every day, you’re either moving toward God or drifting away from Him. Every day you have an opportunity to strengthen your relationship with God or neglect Him. As a believer, the rate of our spiritual growth is determined by what we feed our spirit.

“We must pay the most careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away.” Hebrews 2:1

The day you miss prayer is the day you miss power.

2.) A Quiet Prayer Life Leads to a Loud Flesh

A sleeping prayer life awakens your past life.

“For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh.”Galatians 5:17

If you’re not feeding your spirit, your flesh will start running the show.

It’s not enough to know just theology, we need ‘Kneeology’!

The fire of God doesn’t stay lit on yesterday’s oil. Share on X

3.) The Devil Looks For An Easy Target

“Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.”1 Peter 5:8

He’s studying you, and when he sees your prayer life on life support, that’s his cue!

If you are weak in prayer, you’re weak everywhere. When you are strong spiritually, you are strong everywhere. When you are weak spiritually, you become more vulnerable to the schemes of the enemy.

The altar needs a constant supply of fresh oil daily. Share on X

4.) Charge Your Spiritual Batteries

That’s why Scripture tells us to “pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers” (Ephesians 6:18) and “He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself” (1 Corinthians 14:4).

Praying in the Spirit is like plugging into heaven’s power source.

Some battles you’re facing can’t be fought with casual prayers. They need the power that comes only through the language of the Spirit. When you pray in the Spirit, you go beyond words. You tap into divine strategy.

Build up your spiritual immune system so when the enemy comes knocking, you don’t answer with weakness – you answer with authority. We are anointed to burn for God.
