Evicting the Enemy – Part 2
I want to help you make a connection between the flesh that lives within us and the demons, enemies, and temptations that live outside of us, and how they collaborate.
I. CROUCHING SIN—The Enemy at the Door
Temptation is universal; even Jesus was tempted. Being tempted doesn’t mean you’re demonized; it means you’re human and under spiritual attack. Temptation is not just a moral struggle; it is personified as sin. It is an entity that is crouching at your door, wanting to get inside.
“Sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.” – Genesis 4:7, NIV
- Sin is “crouching”—the Hebrew word “rabas” means to lie low like a beast ready to spring.
- Sin “lurks” at the door—like a predator positioned at an entryway, watching for an opening.
- “It desires to have ”you”—Hebrew tešûqâ, an aggressive craving for control.
- God’s warning carries hope: “You must rule over it.”
- Sin is a predator waiting for a weak moment.
No matter how powerful sin is, it is not more powerful than you in Christ. You can overcome it. God commands you to overcome sin and not give room to it. Sin thrives on compromise, grows through neglect and devours those who underestimate its power.
H.I.T. When Temptation Hits:
H – Hungry. This is when your needs are not met.
I – Isolated. Isolation is a magnifying glass for God’s truth or satan’s lie.
T – Tired. When you are tired, you are prone or vulnerable to attacks.
II. COLLABORATING FLESH—The Traitor Within
- When the word “Flesh” is used in the Bible, it refers to humanity, our bodies, or, in the New Testament, our sinful nature or old Adamic tendencies that reside within every human being and even within Christians. The question is not whether you have the flesh or the Holy Spirit, but to whom do you surrender every day? You will not live a sinful life just because you have the flesh and you will not live a holy life just because you have the Holy Spirit.
- The flesh is not a demon, but if we continually yield to it, the flesh offers demons a way to enter.
“The flesh…is the evil principle in man’s nature, the traitor within who is in league with the attackers without. The flesh provides the tinder on which the devil’s temptations can kindle.” – W. Graham Scroggie
- The flesh works with Satan like Delilah with the Philistines. The flesh is on the demon’s side. It doesn’t care about you. You cannot get rid of it. You have to set up boundaries.
- The longer you entertain the flesh, the stronger its grip becomes. If you feed it, it will enslave you.
- The flesh is the traitor within, working with the enemy.
- The devil doesn’t need to break in when the flesh opens the door for him. You cannot expect deliverance from demons if you are busy having a romantic relationship with your flesh. Ask yourself: is what is charming your attention killing your conviction?
III. CONQUERING SPIRIT—The Manual Transmission Mindset
- Victory over the flesh isn’t automatic; it’s manual—it requires intention.
- You do not overcome the flesh automatically when you get delivered from demons, go to church, or even receive the Holy Spirit and His gifts.
- Just because you are a Christian does not mean you will “automatically” be able to overcome temptations.
- Our minds require a “manual” approach if we are to see victory, and that requires us to use the three pedals: Consider (clutch), Crucify (brake), and Commit (gas).
How to overcome the flesh?
In manual transmission cars, you have three pedals – the clutch, brake, and gas or accelerator pedal. This easily illustrates how we can overcome the flesh as children of God.
- CLUTCH PEDAL – Consider yourself dead to sin (Romans 6:10–11).
“For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God. Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” – Romans 6:10-11
This means you do not overcome the flesh by fighting the flesh. You overcome the flesh Biblically, but believing that Jesus took the old man and killed him on the cross. Your victory against the flesh does not start with your current victory or loss; it starts with Jesus’ victory on the cross that you already have. You have to believe you already have the victory. You don’t start with the brakes with the flesh, you start with the clutch.
- BRAKE PEDAL – Crucify the cravings of the flesh (Galatians 5:24).
“And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.” – Galatians 5:24
The Christian life is not about subscribing to a list of restrictions that prevent us from enjoying our lives. These restrictions actually create a healthy protection and limitation. Without discipline, there can be no Christian life. A Christian life without the discipline of the cross, is like a car without brakes: a disaster waiting to happen.
You cannot crucify your flesh if you still cuddle your cravings. You cannot be a sanctified Christian if there are no disciplines or brakes in your life.
- GAS PEDAL – Commit to walking in the Spirit (Galatians 5:16).
“I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.” – Galatians 5:16
Christians are not called to sit still like a car with the brakes on; we are to be constantly moving forward. Our relationship with the Holy Spirit should be advancing. Hitting the brakes does not help you actually get to your destination. We must be empowered by the Holy Spirit.
The same way the devil collaborates with the flesh to get inside people, God gave you the Holy Spirit to help you get to the next level in Him. Read the scriptures, talk to the Holy Spirit, pray in tongues, make time for Him and when He speaks, do it. That is where the momentum happens.
Victory isn’t automatic; it’s Spirit-led and intentional.
Sin thrives on compromise, grows through neglect, and devours those who underestimate its power. Share on X11 Prayer Declarations for This Week
