The Awe of God

How God Sees The Fear Of The Lord

“The fear of the Lord is God’s treasure.” – Isaiah 33:6 | NKJV

How many of you have a treasure of some kind? God’s treasure is the fear of the Lord. Isn’t that amazing? According to Isaiah 11:3, His (Jesus’) delight is in the fear of the Lord.

The fear of God is reverence, honor, and valuing Him above everything and everyone else. Share on X

What is the Fear of the Lord?

The fear of the Lord is not to be scared of God!

Moses said to the people, “Do not fear; for God has come to test you, and that His fear may be before you, so that you may not sin.” – Exodus 20:20 | NKJV

Moses, in this verse, is not confused or being confusing here; he is differentiating between the fear of God and being scared of God. The Fear of God Is to stand in AWE of God and TREMBLE before Him! There is a massive difference. The person who is scared of God hides from God. That is what Adam did.

The fear of the Lord is not being scared of God—it’s being terrified to be away from Him. Share on X

The Fear of God

When we fear God, we reverence, honor, and value Him to the utmost. We prioritize Him far before anything or anyone else!

When we Fear God:

  • We love what He loves.
  • We hate what He hates.
  • All who fear the Lord will hate evil.

All who fear the Lord will hate evil. Proverbs 8:13 commands us to abhor what is evil and cling to what is good. We cannot just do one. What we hate is as important as what we love to God.

“Because You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness; therefore God, Your God, has anointed You…more than Your  companions.” – Hebrews 1:9 | NKJV

If you learn to hate sin the same way God hates sin, you will see the anointing of God increase upon your life.

“To tremble at His Word is to obey immediately, even if it doesn’t make sense, even if it hurts, even if we don’t see the benefit—obey all the way to completion.” Share on X

The Holiness of God

“So I said: “Woe is me, for I am undone! For my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts.” – Isaiah 6:5 | NKJV

“When we preach the love of God there is a danger of forgetting that the Bible reveals not first the love of God but the intense, blazing, holiness of God, with His love at the center of that holiness.” – Oswald Chambers

“God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints, and to be held in reverence by all those around Him. – Psalm 89:7 | NKJV

“By those who come near Me I must be regarded as holy.” – Leviticus 10:3 NKJV

The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him (Jesus), the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and the Spirit of the fear of the Lord. His delight is in the fear of the Lord.” – ISAIAH 11:2-3 | NKJV

“The measure of our fear of God is seen in our quickness to obey Him.” Share on X

From 2000 to Present Day, over 30 million Americans have gone from ‘practicing Christians’ to ‘non-Christians’ (non-Christian: atheist, agnostic, spiritualist, etc.) according to a Barna Research study of over 95,000 people surveyed. This is because we have lost the fear of God. We don’t tremble at His presence and we don’t tremble at His Word.

“This is the one to whom I will look: he (or she) who is humble and contrite in spirit and trembles at My word.” – Isaiah 66:2 | NKJV

To tremble at His Word is to obey God:

  • Immediately.
  • If it doesn’t make sense.
  • Even if it hurts.
  • Even if we don’t see a benefit.
  • All the way to completion.
