“And the God of peace Himself sanctify you wholly, and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved complete, without blame, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:23

Spirit, Soul, and Body

The human spirit is the deepest part of a person; the innermost part of a person.

The soul is made up of “our mind, will, emotions, and intellect”.

It’s the decision maker between our spirit and our body. It’s the in-between for the spiritual and the physical. The body is our outer shell that houses the spirit and the soul.

In The Beginning

After God created the world, He created Man. He created him perfect. Adam’s Spirit was alive unto God. Adam was divinely connected to God. He was a spiritual person. Adam was a spirit-led person; His spirit that was connected to God’s Spirit dominated his decision-making.

The Crash

“But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.” – Genesis 2:17

Adam lived 930 years in the body, but from that moment of sin in the Garden of Eden, Adam died spiritually. He was no longer a Spirit-led, Spirit-dominated person.

Adam became a soulish, soul-dominated, flesh-led person. Instead of being the masters over the Earth, Adam and Eve became slaves to sin, slaves to satan, slaves to the world, and slaves to their appetites and senses.

Born Into Sin

We became sinners not because we have sinned, but simply because we were just born. The state of all mankind Adam knew the height he fell from, because he tasted and walked in that perfect state, but the generations born after him didn’t.

Man thinks that there is nothing wrong with him. Some people don’t even think that they need God. God gave mankind the law to show them there is a problem; man cannot keep the law in his own ability, desire, or strength.

“So then, the law is holy, and the commandment is holy, righteous, and good.” – Romans 7:12

Man finds out, that he cannot keep the Law. No matter how hard he or she tries to keep the law. Something inside of him or her is broken.

“I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. For I know that good itself does not dwell in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.” – Romans 7:15-20

God gave the The Law not to make man righteous but to show them that they need help.

“But when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law, so that He might redeem those who were under the Law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.” – Galatians 4:4-5

“But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.” – John 1:12-13

Jesus said you must be born again.

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” – 2 Corinthians 5:17

When we give our lives to Jesus, we are born again. Our spirit becomes alive. Our Identity has been changed, we are no longer sinners if we are in Christ. Holy Spirit has come down to be our personal teacher.

“Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation,” – 1 Peter 2:2

We must strengthen, build, and develop our spirit

“And the Child (Jesus) grew and became strong in spirit, filled with wisdom; and the grace of God was upon Him.” – Luke 2:40

“John grew up and became strong in spirit. And he lived in the wilderness until he began his public ministry to Israel.” – Luke 1:80

The reason Jesus had to come into this world through the virgin birth is to show that He did not have the nature of a sinful man. He was holy (Galatians 5:4-5).

When we become children of God, we are no longer sinners. Our identity has changed. Now we have the capacity and ability to hear His voice. God speaks to our spirits.

At this point, we have to learn to walk by the spirit. We need to feed our spirit. The word of God and prayer are the food for our spirit. Social media, gossip, and rumors are the food of the soul. And of course, there’s the physical food for our physical body. 

If we stop feeding our spirit, our spirit will become quieter, and our soul will become louder. We need to take care of our spirit, the same way we take care of our body.

We must pray in tongues; this is how we let our spirit pray. (Luke 2:40, Romans 1:9)

We need to feed our spirit in order for our spirit to grow so that our spirit will be the decision-maker and dominant force in our lives.

Being Spirit-Led

These are the steps on how to become spirit-led:

• Give your life to Jesus, so your spirit will be come alive.
• Get water baptized and get Holy Spirit baptized and receive the gift of speaking in tongs.
• Start feeding on the word of God and pray in tongues to feed your spirit.
