Fighting Fatigue

If the enemy can’t defeat you directly, he will try to wear you out through spiritual fatigue.

But David thought to himself, “One of these days I will be destroyed by the hand of Saul. The best thing I can do is to escape to the land of the Philistines. Then Saul will give up searching for me anywhere in Israel, and I will slip out of his hand.”1 Samuel 27:1

“He shall speak words against the Most High and shall wear out the saints of the Most High.” Daniel 7:25

  • The enemy turns up the heat when you’re close to breakthrough.
  • The devil doesn’t fight you where you are; he fights you where you’re going.
  • Spiritual warfare peaks when you’re closest to your purpose.

Spiritual fatigue can drive a warrior to do to himself what the enemy cannot do to him.

  • Discouragement can come from trusting God for continual deliverance.
  • Fatigue can come from fighting the same battle for an extended period of time.
  • David did to himself what Saul could never do to him.
  • David became a double agent.
    • Saul stopped chasing him.
    • He submitted to an uncircumcised ruler.
    • Mercenaries fought for profit, not honor.
    • He lied for favor.
    • No record of any psalms.
    • It was the lowest point in his life spiritually up to this point.

God provided a breastplate, but not a backplate, because there’s no protection for those who retreat from the fight.

When you run from the battle, you run from victory; when you run from your assignment, you run from the anointing. Share on X

You cannot receive divine strategy on an empty spirit.

“But David strengthened himself in the LORD his God… So David inquired of the Lord, saying, ‘Shall I pursue this troop? Shall I overtake them?’ And He answered him, ‘Pursue, for you shall surely overtake them and without fail recover all.’” – 1 Samuel 30:6, 8

God’s strategy is hidden in God’s strength.

If you don’t get your strength from God, you can’t get your solution from God.

When God doesn’t strengthen you, it’s because He has provided a way for you to strengthen yourself in Him.

Strengthen yourself by:

  • Stopping emotional drama (1 Samuel 30:6; Proverbs 15:1)
  • Singing to God (Isaiah 40:31; Exodus 15:2)
  • Speaking in tongues (1 Corinthians 14:4)
  • Speaking to your soul (Psalm 42:5–6, 11; 105:1–5)
  • Serve someone else (1 Samuel 30:11-15)

God doesn’t just want you to recover what you lost; He wants you to reign in life through Christ Jesus.

“Then the men of Judah came, and there they anointed David king over the tribe of Judah.”2 Samuel 2:4

Your trial is training for your reign. If you obey God’s Word, you will:

  • Renew your strength → because you finally stopped to seek God.
  • Renew someone else → because you stopped thinking only about yourself.
  • Recover what was stolen → because you obeyed God’s strategy.
  • Step into reigning → because now you’re strong enough to carry the weight of influence.
The problem is we seek comforts more than the Comforter. Share on X
