Raising The Next Generation Of Leaders

At Hungry Generation Church, we believe in empowering others to reach their full potential in the Lord.

Our youth are not just leaders of tomorrow; they are the leaders of today. We don’t babysit the next generation in our services; we equip them. We love them where they are at, and we launch them into their purpose because if we do not launch them into the world, we will lose them to the world. Hear the Word of God from seven of our youth leaders.

Caleb – 15 years old – Breaking Down Bitterness

I believe that family and friends are a great blessing. However, as life goes on, it can be easy to grow bitter towards some of them. I am homeschooled and spend all day with my family. I love them so much, but at times, absence can make the heart grow fonder. Let me share some heart-guarding tips that the Lord has shown me.

“Then He said, I tell you the truth, unless you turn from your sins and become like little children, you will never get into the Kingdom of Heaven.” – Matthew 18:3

Children have many godly characteristics but the one I want to hone in on today is their willingness to forgive. Children are naturally quick to forgive. In this regard, they are a direct reflection of how God wants us to be.

Bitterness, hurt, and offense are some of the main reasons that people fall away in their faith. So, what is bitterness? The dictionary describes it as anger and disappointment at being treated unfairly. Bitterness is just a root that grows into many worse things.

“Looking carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble, and by this many become defiled.” – Hebrews 12:15

Church, bitterness is a trap. Just like a snare, once you fall victim to bitterness, it is hard to get out without the blood of Jesus. Everyone has been hurt in life, but it is how you react, as a Christian, that sets you apart. You cannot control what happens to you; you can only control how you respond to it.

Kianna – Youth Worship Leader – Turning Failure Into Purpose

In the book of Job 2, we see the testing of Job’s integrity and faith, when he was permitted to be tempted by the devil. You cannot stay in your comfort zone forever. If you do, that is the only place that God will meet you, but He has so much more for you.

To turn failure into purpose, you have to become comfortable with being uncomfortable. This starts when you break the mindset that says, “I can’t do this”. How can you expect to do great things if you are filled with doubt? Learn to trust in God. Your life cannot go according to plan until God IS the plan. Don’t be in distress for your success. Let God drive you to your purpose so you don’t drive away from it.

Sebastian – Unashamed Club Leader – 17 years old – A Life Worthy Of Your Calling

“As a prisoner of the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling that you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. – Ephesians 4:1-2

The call of God is given, not earned. It is by the grace of God. What carries our calling is holiness. We are called to a holy life to live a life that is worthy of our God-given calling.

Humility is knowing that everything we have is from God and serving others. Pride destroys your calling, but humility protects it. Gentleness is the character of Jesus on full display. Division kills the mission God has sent you on. Unity brings us together to complete the mission. You are called by God, but are you living a life worthy of the call that you have been given?

Sarah – Youth Worship Leader – 16 years old – Called to Carry

You are called to carry, but are you carrying your calling?

“Mordecai sent this reply to Esther: ‘Don’t think for a moment that because you are in the palace, you will escape when all others Jews are killed. If you keep quiet at a time like this, deliverance and relief for the Jews will arise from some other place, but you and your relatives will die. Who knows if perhaps you were made queen for just such a time as this? – Esther 4:13

The truth of who you are is found in who God says you are. The world can put all kinds of labels on you but only God can rename you into who you really are.

“But now, O Jacob, listen to the Lord who created you. O Israel, the One who formed you says, “Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name; you are mine.” – Isaiah 43:1

Don’t listen to the lie of the world; listen to what God says about you. The enemy will try to do and say all he can to prevent you from first knowing who you are, then from believing it.

Culture says you are not enough; God says my grace is enough for you. Today’s culture says you are too young and inexperienced to be used by God, but God says don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young. The culture says you are unlovable, but God says I have loved you with an everlasting love (Jeremiah 31:3). Identity empowers assignment.

Edvin – 24 years old – Building Faith

The Oxford Dictionary defines faith as complete trust or confidence in someone or something.

“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” – Hebrews 11:1

To put it simply, faith is like a confirmation email you receive when online shopping. You don’t have the product yet, you have paid money for it, but you trust that they will bring you what you paid for. We must put our faith in God. Nothing else will live up to the standard we expect.

How big is your faith? Little faith like Jesus’ disciples in the boat, or great like the Roman centurion whose servant was healed. Do you really know how good God is and what He can do? We must elevate our expectations to the level of God’s Word. Expect the miraculous.

Isaiah – The Sin Within

Distraction leads to destruction. Samson fell to Delilah, Judas fell for money, and David fell for Bathsheba. In each example, they were distracted and it led to their destruction.

The enemy will present a distraction that he knows your flesh desires to derail you from the destination God has for you. Our fleshly desires can derail our God given destinations.

“But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires. Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.” – James 1:14-15

Are you being led by your faith or are you being led by your flesh? Do everything you can to resist sin. Resisting sin has its great reward (James 1:12). Don’t give your attention to what is temporary, but fix your eyes on God.

Angel – 24 years old – The Rising Rates

Suicide, depression, feelings of hopelessness, marijuana, and drug abuse all seem to be on the rise in among the young generation today. However, in the same way that the enemy is ramping up his attacks, God is preparing His army to do what has never been seen before and it starts with the youth.

For the first time in 30 years, the number of young people in America who identify as non-religious is on a decrease. More people are being drawn to Christ than ever before; Bible sales worldwide are up 41%, downloads of Christian and religious apps are up 80%, and the Christian music genre is being listened to 50% more. Young people are being drawn towards Jesus Christ, the Gospel, and the Kingdom of God. What are you doing to be part of that? Be involved in evangelising all ages.

Young people today:

  • Don’t want sin; they want to be sanctified.
  • They don’t want the fake; they want the fire.
  • They are not interested in the production; they want to experience the presence and Spirit of God.
