That They May Serve Me
I want to share with you about the real purpose why you and I are set free. It is also the purpose to which we are saved. We all know what we are saved from but I want to remind us what we are saved into. The purpose of deliverance is to serve God.
“The God of the Hebrews has met with us; and now, please, let us go three days’ journey into the wilderness, that we may sacrifice to the Lord our God.” — Exodus 3:18
“Let My people go, that they may hold a feast to Me in the wilderness...“Please, let us go three days’ journey into the desert and sacrifice to the Lord our God, lest He fall upon us with pestilence or with the sword.” — Exodus 5:1, 3
“Let My people go, that they may serve Me…“Entreat the Lord that He may take away the frogs from me and from my people; and I will let the people go, that they may sacrifice to the Lord.” — Exodus 8:1, 8
God’s idea of deliverance wasn’t of relief from pain but of resignation to Him. Israel didn’t see it that way.
1. Deliverance Has a Purpose: “That They May Serve Me”
- “Let My people go, that they may serve Me.”
- God didn’t set Israel free to roam, but to worship and walk with Him.
- Real freedom isn’t doing your will—it’s being released to do His will.
- God didn’t just deliver Israel from Pharaoh—He delivered them for Himself.
- Freedom without service is rebellion in disguise.
- Deliverance is not the destination—devotion is.
- Deliverance without discipleship leads to defeat.
- Deliverance that doesn’t lead to discipleship will not lead to dominion.
- Israel got out of Egypt but died in the wilderness—because they never moved from deliverance to devotion.
- Deliverance doesn’t give you more of God — it gives God more of you.
2. You Can’t Serve God in Egypt
- God’s service doesn’t happen in Egypt—you must come out.
- Egypt represents bondage, compromise, and worldliness.
- You must leave compromise to live consecrated.
- Deliverance precedes devotion.
- You can’t live in bondage and say you’re fully serving God.
3. Service to God Always Involves Sacrifice
- Service is not just a song, it’s surrender.
- The first thing Israel was called to do after being delivered was worship through sacrifice.
- If there’s no sacrifice, there’s no true service.
4. Serving is Generational – Involves Your Whole Household
- God doesn’t just want your personal devotion—He wants your family legacy.
- You’re not truly serving if your family is being left behind.
- Some make their marriage their mission, others sacrifice their marriage for their mission—but we live with our marriage on a mission.
- We don’t leave our families behind to serve God—we bring them with us.
- Serving God is not just personal—it’s generational.
- Our children don’t just watch us serve—they learn to serve.
5. Serving God Involves Your Possessions
- Generosity and obedience go together.
- God doesn’t just want your time, He wants your treasure involved in His worship.
- You haven’t given God your life if you haven’t given Him your stuff.
- What you withhold reveals who you truly serve.
Serving God Means Submitting to His Lordship
- The devil doesn’t mind religion—as long as you don’t relate to God as Lord.
- Judas called Jesus “Rabbi,” not “Lord.” (Mt. 26:22–25)
Judas walked with Jesus, kissed Him… but never surrendered to Him. - Knowing Jesus as a Teacher makes you informed; knowing Him as Lord makes you transformed.
- Jesus was more committed to truth than crowds:
- He emphasized Lordship, repentance, and surrender—knowing it would drive away the crowds.
- He wasn’t lowering the standard to attract the fake—He was raising it to reveal the faithful.
Salvation is not just rescue—it’s recruitment. You’re not just saved from something, but for something. Serve Jesus Christ as your Lord!
