The Bible Is The Word Of God
I didn’t always believe the Bible. I thought it was all fairytales, myths and fantasy but as science is developing, we are seeing more and more evidence that confirms the Bible not only to be true but to be historically accurate and reliable.
Its pages, filled with prophecies, narratives, and teachings, have stood the test of time, leaving an indelible imprint on human history. But what distinguishes the Bible from other religious texts? Let’s delve into the numerous reasons, supported by numbers and facts, that underscore why you can place your full confidence in the authenticity of the Bible.
The Certainty of the Bible
Firstly, the Bible itself lays a solid groundwork for its credibility. Luke, known for his meticulous approach to history, opens his gospel by stating, “Inasmuch as many have taken in hand to set in order a narrative of those things which have been fulfilled among us, just as those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and ministers of the word delivered them to us, it seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write to you an orderly account, most excellent Theophilus, that you may know the certainty of those things in which you were instructed” (Luke 1:1-4 NKJV). Here, Luke’s words highlight the thorough research and firsthand accounts upon which the Bible’s narrative rests.
Similarly, Peter underscores the reliability of the gospel narratives, stating, “For we did not follow cunningly devised fables when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of His majesty” (2 Peter 1:16 NKJV). His assertion underscores the authenticity of their testimonies, rooted in personal experiences and direct encounters with Jesus Christ.
Archaeological and Manuscript Support For The Bible
Furthermore, the Bible’s historical accuracy finds robust support in archaeological and manuscript evidence, setting it apart from other religious texts. Consider the following comparisons:
- Hinduism, Buddhism, and Taoism lack substantial historical documentation, with the oldest manuscripts dating from 1000-1300 AD, 1st century BC, and approximately 300-400 years after the alleged authors’ lifetimes, respectively.
- Islam’s Quran manuscripts date to around 600-700 AD, significantly later than the events they describe, such as Jesus’ life.
- In contrast, the New Testament was written within decades of the events it portrays, with the earliest known manuscript dating to around 125 AD, less than 100 years after.
- The New Testament boasts over 5,600 manuscripts in the original language, along with over 11,000 more in various translations, dwarfing the manuscript support for highly regarded ancient works:
- Caesar’s Gallic Wars – 10 manuscripts
- Aristotle’s Poetics – Less than 50 manuscripts
- Herodotus – less than 100 manuscripts
- Plato – 210 manuscripts
Moreover, the Bible’s prophetic fulfillment stands as a striking testament to its divine inspiration, supported by mathematical probabilities and archaelogical evidence:
- Mathematician Peter Stoner calculated the probability of just eight prophecies being fulfilled in one person at a specific time as conservatively 1 in 10^17.
- Recent discoveries of historical artefacts and items further verify the Bible, including The Isaiah Scroll, Dead Sea Scrolls, The Bethlehem Bulla, The Pontius Pilate Stone, The Seal of King Hezekiah and The Alexamenos Graffiti
In conclusion, the Bible’s historical accuracy, bolstered by archaeological findings, manuscript evidence, and prophetic fulfillment, establishes it as a trustworthy and authoritative source. Its concrete evidence, when compared with other religious texts and historical figures, is unmatched. When you turn to the pages of the Bible, you’re delving into a treasure chest of historical accuracy and divine revelation, inviting you to explore the depths of faith and encounter the living God.
