Walking Through The Doors Of Opportunity

Discerning Opportunities From God

If you do not know how to discern opportunities when God presents them, not only will you miss entering the new phase in your life, the new room in your life, you might end up not even surviving the season you are in.

Let us look at a King in the Bible who missed a very big opportunity.

Then he said to him, “Thus says the LORD: Because you have let slip out of your hand a man whom I appointed to utter destruction, therefore your life shall go for his life, and your people for his people.’”

1 Kings 20:42

The Bible describes Ahab as the worst king of Israel. He was passive and his wife, Jezebel, was a terror.

God didn’t judge Ahab for Ben-Hadad escaping the first time, He judged him for letting the enemy slip through his fingers by doing the following:

  • Letting the enemy live after he caught him (1 Kings 20:42).
  • Calling the enemy a brother (1 Kings 20:32).
  • Making a treaty with an enemy.
  • Took back cities, and set up a market in Samaria.

Opportunity is a set of circumstances that makes it possible to do something. Our lives have moments that create momentum.

Ahab had moments which had created momentum of victory and blessing but he didn’t mature in his walk; he was careless and let the blessing of God slip out of his hands. Don’t get careless when you have momentum or not only can you miss the opportunity to have your life changed, but also of stepping into something new. You can even find yourself being dragged back to your old life and misery.

Breakthrough happens when preparation meets an opportunity. Share on X

The Devil Knows The Value Of Opportunities

Now when the devil had ended every temptation, he departed from Him until an opportune time.

Luke 4:13

Even the devil looks for good opportunities to do his work. The devil is an opportunist. He works all the time. He is not successful all the time but he doesn’t easily let opportunities slide. The devil is the most successful when he has the opportunity to attack. We are the ones who open the door of opportunity for the devil to attack us by our weaknesses. All temptation is simply knocking on the door.

Do not give the devil an opportunity.

Ephesians 4:27 (NET)

I want to teach you the power of recognizing the moments God gives you and how to maximize them. Those moments are doors into a new season and chapter of life. If you don’t learn how to do this, you can become like Ahab – stuck behind the door of your old season and starting to drift away.

God is why revivals start; we are the reason why they end. Share on X

Doors of Opportunity:

“Now when they had come and gathered the church together, they reported all that God had done with them, and that He had opened the door of faith to the Gentiles.”

Acts 14:27

God opens doors of opportunity for us (2 Corinthians 2:12; Revelation 3:8; 1 Corinthians 16:9). Here are some details about the doors God can open for us.

  • Doors provide access to something
  • Doors are often closed and only open for specific moments
  • Knocking can have a door opened
  • They have keys – this is for preparation
  • Thresholds need to be crossed
  • They have different sizes

The devil can also give us a door of opportunity, that will also lead to something that will change our lives but it will always end up killing, stealing, and destroying us. Not every opportunity is God’s opportunity; some opportunities are demonic traps.

The difference between God's opportunity and satan's is you have to bend your morality to get in the devil's door. Share on X

Doors Do Not Stay Open Forever

A wasted opportunity is a tragedy (Luke 13:25; 19:44). You might not have the chance to get, learn, or do that thing again, once the door closes. You need to recognize the moment of God’s visitation and step through it boldly.

“Hell is paved with good intentions and roofed with lost opportunities.”

Preparation for your new season is like having a key to a closed door. Don’t spend all your time waiting for God or somebody else – prepare for the new season or start knocking.

Don't just wait for your next opportunity, prepare for your next opportunity. Share on X
