How To Be Healthy As A Christian
We know that we wrestle not against flesh and blood but against powers, principalities, the rulers of the darkness of this age, and spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Although it might be manifesting physically, satan just has to go through evil people to manifest his will on Earth. A lot of the reason why this is happening is spiritual at its root. As believers, we should be discerning about this. There is clearly a massive epidemic of unhealth and disease but our God sent Jesus to heal the multitudes. Jesus healed people physically, emotionally, spiritually, and mentally. The Holy Spirit leads us into all truth. We, as believers who know God should be a testimony to the world that we know God because we embody all that is truth.
Statistics
What we are witnessing in our generation is a massive spiritual attack and it is becoming exponential. We are in the last days and the devil is doing everything that he can to weaken the body of Christ. If you think it is not weakening the body of Christ, ask the people who question why God did not heal them. They eat themselves into illness and then blame God for not healing them, ultimately ending up losing their faith. The devil’s ultimate goal in attacking us is to cause us to lose our faith in Jesus Christ. This is what the Proverbs speak about: the one who has folly in his ways which leads to destruction and rage against the Lord.
Epigenetically, our decisions are passed on through generations. Certain genes will turn on and off depending on our dietary choices. Tweet ThisHealth statistics:
- Cancer – half of the women and a third of the men will get cancer in their lifetime according to the British Journal of Cancer. This number was about 5 percent in the early 1900s. Now it is 50-33%.
- More than 30% of all cancer deaths can be linked to diet. An even smaller percentage is hereditary or genetic and the rest is actually caused by environmental factors.
- Cancer is the number one disease children die from today.
- 70% of all Americans are obese or overweight according to the CDC. Caloric intake has remained the same since 1999 yet obesity has increased by 30%.
- Children with autism have gone from 1 in 150 to 1 in 144 and by 2050, 33% of all children are expected to appear on the autism spectrum.
- Heart disease is the number one killer in America. Heart disease drugs make big pharmaceutical companies around $76 billion a year.
- Sperm count is down 50% in the last 60 years according to a 1992 study.
- Diabetes medications are projected to be worth $80 billion dollars by 2026. The cancer industry is worth $120 billion and the weight loss industry is worth $78 billion.
While there have been substantial scientific breakthroughs and discoveries which can help literally the whole world, there is so much money being made on people’s ignorance.
In Matthew 6:24, the Bible actually names the spirit of greed as mammon:
“No one can serve two masters. For they will hate one and love the other or else will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Mammon.”
Our Body Is God’s Temple
The Bible teaches us that our bodies are not our own; they are considered to be God’s temple.
1 Corinthians 3:16-17, “Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst? If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy that person; for God’s temple is sacred, and you together are that temple.”
1 Corinthians 6:9, “Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?”
1 Corinthians 10:1, “Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”
Are we submitting to God in our diets and lifestyle? Are we being led by the Holy Spirit? We invest in and maintain our houses and cars so that they last a long time in good condition. What are you doing with God’s temple that He wants to flow through to save souls, win people and bring His Kingdom to Earth? To truly be a minister and ambassador for Christ, what are we doing with our bodies?
Our body is God's temple, be mindful of what you fuel it with. Share on XFood Cannot Defile Us Spiritually
It is important to note this. The Judaic laws of strict diet and requirements were a big topic of discussion in the New Testament and early church period. Many of the verses addressing this in the New Testament were actually talking about food sacrificed to idols. Apostle Paul was telling them that food cannot defile us spiritually. In other words, just because you eat something, it does not make you a worse person. Just because food cannot defile us spiritually, it does not mean that it cannot destroy us physically. However, do not let yourself become carried away by this to the extent you hyper-focus on wellness and your soul begins to wander from what truly matters which is Christ. Yet this does not mean we should not focus on this.
Food can't defile us spiritually, but it can destroy us physically. Share on XPeople use Mark 7 as a verse to discount healthy eating where Jesus said, “Do you not perceive that whatever enters a man from outside cannot defile him because it does not enter his heart but his stomach and is eliminated”.
Unhealthy eating may not defile us spiritually but that does not mean it is not affecting us. Wellness actually limits our ability to serve God when we get tired so easily or worse, you are at the hospital every few months because there is something wrong with you. God wants to empower you today. You might be struggling with wellness or know someone who is: this is for you.
Of course, God still heals and wants to heal us today but this does not mean there is no responsibility on our end. The Book of Proverbs contains so many verses about work ethics and financial principles. This goes to show that while there is an element of mystery to God in that He can do anything, this rarely removes the fact that we have to have a sense of personal responsibility for our wellness.
The story of the woman with the issue of blood, who was healed by Jesus, tells us that she had been consulting and relying on doctors for 12 years. Trying a better diet or lifestyle can never replace our need for God. However, look at when Paul was counseling Timothy about his frequent illnesses, instructing him for his stomach’s sake to take some wine/juice to improve his wellness. Apostle Paul did not just reprimand Timothy that he was not praying enough and that’s why he was frequently sick.
In Third John, when Apostle John wrote to Gaius, he said, “Dear friend, I hope all is well with you and that you are as healthy in body as you are strong in spirit.” The Scriptures are clear that we are supposed to be as healthy in body as we are strong in spirit. The church, as the body of Christ, needs to be educated and gain knowledge about wellness. Not for nothing does the Father warn My people perish for lack of knowledge. Not just the moral knowledge of God’s Word but also knowledge of basic practical things in life because they matter.
Ways To Honor God With Your Health
- Start Learning About True Health. You can literally google how can I become healthier and you will start learning more. Start researching today if you feel convicted that you can do better with the temple of God entrusted to you. If you don’t learn, you might make progress but you won’t know why you do what you do. This information can then be passed onto your children and before you know it, you will cause generations of good health. The study of epigenetics shows that your decisions can actually turn on and off different genes. You can be a curse breaker physically in your genetics today. Gain this knowledge because it is valuable.
- Eat Whole Foods, Cut Down Massively On Fast Foods. Think about how it grows from seed to plant or fruit. That is wholefoods. In Eden, Adam and Eve were eating vegetable and fruit diet. It wasn’t until after the flood with Noah that we started eating meat. That doesn’t mean that meat is bad. Although the conditions the animals are commercially grown in can be. Proverbs 12:10, says the godly care for their animals, but the wicked are always cruel. A lot of people choose to eat vegan because of what happens to the animals. You need a mental renewal about what is true food – what and how God created it.
- Limit White Flour And Sugar Intake. The sugars and starches that doesn’t get used by the body for energy, immediately get converted into fat cells. White starches cause a lot of fatty liver disease too. If you cut out sugar, you will cut out weight; it is very simple. Every seven years your body has entirely new cells. If you are giving the nutrients that your body needs for your cells to be at optimum level of function, it will last for at least seven years. Many of these nutrients are lacking in fast foods and packaged foods.
- Eat More Fruit, Juice and Vegetables. The thing about juicing is that you get extremely potent nutrition, extremely fast without having to eat massive quantities. If you cannot juice, eat more fruit. This is very revitalising and cleansing for the intestines and colon. Treat the colon the way it is meant to be treated and you will get results.
- Start Walking Or Jogging Regularly. This is extremely powerful. There is something very important and even divine about the motion of walking, the way God created us. Most of our organs have a natural pumping action, including the heart, liver, kidneys and colon. When you are sedentary for most of the day, your body isn’t pumping the way it should. When you exercise, not only are you burning calories but your fluids and organs are pumping the way they should be and your whole health increases.
Two Ways To Wellness
- Fasting. Water or juice fasting is incredibly potent for good health, weight loss and detoxing. Just a three day fast increases the human growth hormone levels by 300%. A ten day fast increases this level by 1250%. A 72 hour fast completely resets your immune system. Hungry Generation fasts corporately every January so join the community and get help from likeminded people.
- Colon Cleansing. There is a process where you take a kind of laxative or colon cleansing fluid that helps get the kind of black tar and parasites out. I lost over 2.2 pounds of this black substance that had built up on my colon and I felt incredible. I felt different in so many ways after it. This also really helps with the proper absorption of the nutrients in your food.
There are many ways to help align yourself with the way that God created our bodies as a whole but in the end, it is not our physical health that really matters. The Bible tells us that bodily exercise profits us a little but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that is not and that is to come. It is not our physical health that we should be spending most of our time and energy seeking; it is our spiritual health.
