Out Of The Salt Shaker

Christians Are The Salt Of The Earth

There are 30 million Bible-believing Christians who did not vote in the last presidential election. A narrow margin of 44,000 voters decided the last election. Based on Research conducted by Arizona Christian University, it is estimated that 104 million people of faith, of which 41 million people are Christians, and 32 million people who attend church regularly, will not cast ballots this election.

Government is one of three God-ordained spheres (family, church, state) to maintain order in society. The role of the government is to protect borders, uphold moral laws enforcing them to punish evil and reward good. As God’s servants, the government’s authority is derived from and accountable to God and its citizens.

For he is God’s minister to you for good. But if you do evil, be afraid; for he does not bear the sword in vain; for he is God’s minister, an avenger to execute wrath on him who practices evil.” – Romans 13:4

Due to human sinfulness, the government must restrain evil and itself be restrained to ensure stability, opportunity, and human flourishing. The founding fathers of the United States built the nation on Christian principles, reflecting God’s governance in three branch systems as God, who is one God in three persons, governs the universe. They intended the constitution to be grounded in the Gospel so that the chuch could guide and hold the state accountable. Today, this is being challenged.

Salt and Light

“You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men. You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and set it under a basket but on a lampstand and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men that they might see your good works and glorify your Father who is in Heaven.” – Matthew 5:13

1. Salt slows the natural decay of something that’s rotting.

Jesus compares His followers – Bible believing, Spirit filled followers – to salt. He doesn’t call us sugar. We are to be filled with the fruit of the Spirit but the nature of who we are to this world is not sugar; we are salt. Societies degrade naturally because of sin. Unless the Church pushes back against it, they will go further.

In the United States in 2024, both the Democrats and Republicans have immoral candidates but the differences are not the same. The Democrats currently pose significantly more moral challenges for Christians than the Republicans, advocating and legally protecting same sex surgeries for minors. This is a moral decay. Democrats support and propagate separating parents from their minor children if they oppose their child’s desire to undergo sex change. The Democrats also promote pornographic books and materials, making them directly accessible to our children in public libraries. In doing this, the Democrats redefine and undermine the Biblical definition of marriage. They have also failed to secure the border, fuelling drug and human trafficking. As if this was not bad enough, the Democrat party actually undermined the national sovereignty of the United States and voting integrity by making it illegal in some states for identification to be requested in order to vote.

Furthermore, the Democrats celebrate and push for unrestricted abortions amounting to child sacrifice, promote transgender ideology across all cultures, invade womens’ spaces and teach perverse practices to children. They also wage war on parental authority, labelling parents as abusive for not affirming state ideology and eroding the nuclear family and on masculinity, fail to define womanhood – except when a man enters womens’ sports, and silencing free speech through cancel culture censorship.

Who To Vote For

As the salt of the earth, who should you vote for? Instead of asking which candidate I like the most, we should be asking which candidate can slow down the decay of a rotting culture. Vote for the option that best slows social decay.

You’re not choosing a pastor or a Valentine. You don’t have to like or not like them as a person. Their gender and ethnicity is of no relevance here. Vote for policy, not personality. Personalities fade in 4-8 years; policies impact generations. Dear believers, get your heads out of the sand of political correctness; stop fearing what anybody says or thinks about you. You are not sugar; you are salt. You are placed on this earth and in your nation, to be the final push back against the onslaught of the agenda of the devil and demonic ideology that is annihilating children in the womb as child sacrifices, sterilizing and castrating our children, and indoctrinating them.

We need to stand up and let our voice be heard that abortion is murder and if abortion is not murder, then slavery was just employment. Share on X

We need to stand up and let our voice be heard that abortion is murder and if abortion is not murder, then slavery was just employment. This is not political; it is prophetic. We serve the Author of life itself. Mary was called a mother when she was pregnant, not when Jesus was born. This is Biblical and as Christians, we have to push back – not against people – but ideologies and ways of thinking that exist in our culture, while we can. The choice facing Americans on November 5th is between a non-Christian and an anti-Christian. How do I know one of the candidates is anti-Christian? Because when someone shouted out at her rally, “Jesus is Lord,” she said on the microphone, “You are at the wrong rally.”

“You should give as much serious attention to your vote as you do your prayers.”Charles Spurgeon

Salt The Society

2. Salt does no good if left in the salt shaker.

Nobody buys salt to keep it in a salt shaker. Jesus said, ‘You are the salt of the earth,’ not ‘the salt of the church.’ Every part of society should have people like you and I in it and our values should be reflected in our decisions.

Don’t keep religion out of politics or your convictions out of the public square.

Joseph influenced Pharaoh, Daniel influenced Babylonian kings, and Esther influenced legislation to prevent genocide. Chattel slavery was abolished, and the civil rights movement happened because Christians like William Wilberforce and Martin Luther King Jr engaged in the culture.

Someone’s convictions will always influence policy and the law; there can’t be a vacuum. For those who cry, “Don’t push your morality on people” – morality is legislated. Somebody will decide morality; somebody will legislate somebody’s morality. They are not keeping their perversion to themselves; why should we keep the truth and what we believe to ourselves? Everybody else came out of the closet – it is time for Christians to do the same. Be the salt of the earth; be like salt, talk like salt, pray like salt, vote like salt, love like salt, live like salt – stop appologizing for being the salt of the earth. We are not woke, politically correct, people-pleasing type of Christians; we are Bible-believing, Jesus-follwing, Gospel-affirming salt of the earth.

Righteousness Is A Gift From God

“It is impossible to rightly govern a nation without God and the Bible.” – George Washington

“Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.” – Proverbs 14:34

When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; but when a wicked man rules, the people groan.” – Proverbs 29:2

We are groaning in America and have been groaning for some time. Our bills, the economy, the social trends all are cause for deep groaning. Even atheists have acknowledged that Christian values make society better.

“The general principles on which the fathers achieved independence were the general principles of Christianity.” – John Adams

Unity is not about unity; unity is about the truth. We love people but love celebrates the truth.

The United States Was Founded On Christian Principles

The constitution prevents the government from establishing an official religion. The USA was founded on the values of Christians and has been reaping the benefits of these values. American leaders saw public office as a divine calling and believed their government should reflect Christian morals. Almost all state constitutions reference God, Who also appears in the Declaration of Independence, the Pledge of Allegiance, and on US currency.

The Separation of Church and State

The separation of Church and State did not mean that the church should stay out of politics but that politics should stay out of the church. It does not mean that we should not influence every area of life. The problem is not that the Church got political but that the government got ‘spiritual.’

The culture will lose its mind if the church loses its prophetic voice. This is what is happening in our culture today. We cannot allow the devil free reign to push his agenda with no resistance. We have to be the salt of the earth, the voice of conscience to our nation and culture, and to preserve the nuclear family in which there is a mother, a father, and children who are raised in the ways of God. Biblical teaching should restrain the government; the government should not restrain Biblical teaching.

Jesus’ kingdom is not of this world, which calls us to engage, not withdraw, from culture. He taught us to pray, ‘Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as in heaven.’

Romans 13 requires Christians to be good subjects of government, which in America means actively participating as citizens in the electoral process, praying for leaders (2 Timothy 2:1-4), and respecting those in authority (Romans 13:1-7).

What Makes Salt Salt Is Effectiveness

3. When salt loses its flavor, it ceases to be effective as salt.

In the New Testament, we see that salt could lose its flavor due to impurities, exposure to moisture or metal ions could degrade or evaporate the salt’s flavor, leaving behind a tasteless residue that only looked like salt. We face an epidemic of tasteless salt in the church because we allow ourselves to be discipled by celebrities, social media, and news agencies, instead of the Holy Spirit through the Bible. This leads to people who look like Christians but don’t live like Christians, talk like Christians, or vote like Christians.

There are three main dangers of losing your saltiness as a Christian.

  • Conformity: the values of the culture. (Romans 12:2)
  • Cowardliness: bending to the pressure of the culture. (Revelation 21:8)
  • Contamination: getting a political spirit. (Mark 8:15)

A political spirit treats national identity as greater than heavenly citizenship. It prioritizes political parties over spiritual family, and equates the country with God’s kingdom. The political spirit looks to candidates as saviors. It views revival as a top-down societal takeover, and may even condone violence to advance the gospel.

Christian Citizenship

Christians have dual citizenship. Citizens of Heaven (Philippians 3:20; Ephesians 2:19). Ambassadors for Christ (2 Corinthians 5:20).

While our nation is not our refuge, it is our mission field. (Matthew 28:19-20; Mark 16:15; Acts 1:8; 2:4; 8:5-8; 19:1-6). We are like Jews in Babylon, involved in all areas of society to bring God’s kingdom’s influence, even though this is not our home.

“And seek the peace of the city where I have caused you to be carried away captive, and pray to the Lord for it; for in its peace you will have peace.” Jeremiah 29:7

Christians should make their voices heard in society. Stay informed, vote, hold leaders accountable, and run for office if called by God.

There is nothing wrong with being a Christian patriot, worshipping Jesus, and loving your country. But our ultimate hope is in King Jesus and His coming reign on earth.

Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.” 1 Timothy 2:1-4
