Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding;
Proverbs 3:5
Trust in the Lord with all your heart…
Maybe you are like me & you’ve asked God, “What does it mean to trust you with ALL my heart?”
Well, Jesus asked me, “where do you find comfort?” Ask yourself that… notice how you want to handle your heart.
Are you turning to sex? Food? Shopping? Alcohol? Or to others?
Why is it that we seek comfort in everything else but God Himself?
I didn’t understand why I was struggling to fully commit to Jesus until I was in prayer and Jesus began to show me what I do; I claim to give Him my heart, yet I never actually give Him my heart fully. What I actually do is I put my heart in His hands and then I snatch it back after seeing him squishing it. The only reason I never gave Jesus my heart fully is because I thought that He would play with it in His hands. I didn’t want my heart to be abandoned so that led to me unable to trust Him with my heart.
What I was seeing wasn’t actually Jesus, but I was seeing Jesus through the lens of men from my past who had hurt me.
I had a hard time committing to not just relationships but to programs, events, and jobs. My heart problem started to manifest into what I called my life.
I’m a woman who struggles with her relationship with her father. He broke my heart before any man could. The word “submit” is a stab to the heart for me. Due to the way I grew up – doing as I pleased, when it came to being under authority – I had a difficult time submitting to them.
One day Bryson Still, my previous internship director, asked me, “If you are unable to submit to earthly authority, how are you supposed to submit to your Heavenly Father’s authority?”
It was painful to reflect on this question but it was pivotal to my growth.
Jesus then began to take me on a journey to rewire my thoughts on submission.
The enemy gets you to think that submitting leads to bondage and rebellion leads to freedom.
But the truth is when you submit to God, He provides:
- Peace
- Provision
- Protection
(Psalms 91)
The truth is: Submission leads to freedom & rebellion leads to bondage.
Submission leads to freedom & rebellion leads to bondage. Share on XPeople who make a big impact in the world have a secret: they submitted to God.
Maybe you want to be led to freedom so you asked Jesus “teach me how to submit.”
His response is simply, “Trust me.”
Surrender you heart to him, and He will make your path straight.
In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.
