The Mindset Of Fasting

I want to discourage your from adopting the mindset of a quitter. People often forget or abandon their commitment to God when they lose motivation. As a Church we are fasting right now, but this doesn’t only apply to fasting. Usually, when people make a decision or commitment to do something, especially if it is to do with the Lord, about half way through it, discouragement and lack of motivation sets in. This gives way to excuses for why we should stop fasting, or whatever we had committed to do. I want to caution you against this.

Many never get to the end of a fast or decision, and never get to experience what could happen if they go to the end. Some of us have built a habit of starting things or making promises and then falling short of those things by quitting.

Our Savior, Jesus Christ, is called the Author and Finisher of our faith. When He was on the cross, He didn’t shout out, “I quit”. He cried out, “It is finished.” Be a finisher; don’t be a quitter. In fasting, this doesn’t mean that you ignore your health if something was not right. You can adjust but you need to stay mentally resilient and focused on the things of God.

There will always be food and celebrations but what you can get at the end of a fast might not always be so readily available: God’s intervention, interference and backing.

Five Things We Are Expecting From God In Our 21-Day Fast

“Then I proclaimed a fast there at the River of Ahava. That we might humble ourselves before God, to seek Him the right way, to seek from Him the right way for us, our little ones, and our possessions.”

Ezra 8:21

1. We are humbling ourselves before God.
2. We are seeking God.
3. Looking for God’s guidance for this year.
4. Believing for a family breakthough.
5. Believing for a financial breakthrough.

This is why we are fasting for these 21 days at Hungry Generation Church. I want God to rebuke the devourer for our sake over our finances, to open the windows of Heaven and doors of opportunity and pout out a blessing that there is not enough room to contain. God is able to do all this for us if we humble ourselves, seek His face and His guidance for the year. Are you believing for a family or financial breakthrough this year? Let us fast and seek the Lord.

God will take some of you from manna to milk and honey this year. God will take you from a place of provision to a place of providing, prosperity, and abundance. The Lord will take you from working for somebody to providing jobs for others. The year 2023 might have been a year of breakdown but in 2024, God promises to release grace when you humble yourself. Grace in unmerited favor and that brings breakthrough in your life.

God’s Response To Those Who Fast

In 1 Samuel 7:10-14 , as the Israelites fasted and prayed, God’s thunder came, restoration came, and recovery of territory came. The nation of Israel was weeping before the Lord for revival for 20 years before Samuel was given by God, to call the people to pray and fasting. Heaven responded.

Heaven cannot discard the prayer and fasting of God’s people. Heaven does not ignore prayer when it is accompanied by fasting and repentance. When you humble yourself before God by fasting and praying, I believe Heaven will respond. God will give His breakthrough in our family and finances. He will thunder upon our enemies. Maybe your enemy is cancer, arthritis, mental illness, shortage and lack, premature death in the family, or barrenness, God will thunder on your spiritual enemies this year. Remember, we do not fight against flesh and blood. But not only did God thunder against His people’s enemies, He also recovered their territory.

2024 is the year of recovering my territory. There is a territory God has promised you in the spirit realm but you haven’t possessed it yet. You might have seen it with your eyes but you haven’t touched it or walked in it with your feet. Some of you lost territory in the last few years in your health, finances, and opportunities. I stand with you that in 2024, your health, finances, opportunities, resources, vision, and dreams will be restored in the name of Jesus Christ.

This is why fasting is essential. We are laying our body and our pride on the altar and seeking God for His face, to thunder on our enemies, to guide us in the way that is pleasing to Him, to bless our families, to recover what we lost and so much more.

Fasting, Prayer, and Angels

According to Hebrews 1:14 and Psalm 103:20, God’s angels are:

• Worshipers and warriors.
• Messengers and ministers.
• On assignment – they don’t roam over the earth like demons.
• Angels work on our behalf though they do not work at our command.
• As you pray, God dispatches His angels to work.

Acts 12:5 tell us of the constant prayer that was offered for Peter when he was imprisoned. Two verses later, an angel of the Lord supernaturally released Peter from prison and led him out of the jail. God wants to release His mighty warriors to fight an invisible battle on your behalf as you give yourself to constant prayer.

Motivation will get you started but discipline will keep you going to the end. When we fast and pray till the end, we shall rejoice in the spoils of our victory.
