Jesus Is Lord
In the Scriptures, we usually see that Jesus Christ walked everywhere He went. However, when He entered Jerusalem, He chose to ride on a donkey. He knew exactly where the donkey was, its condition, and what to say to the owner to release it.
“And if anyone says anything to you, you shall say, ‘The Lord has need of them,’ and immediately he will send them.”
Matthew 21:3
1. Those who don’t embrace the Lordship of Jesus would not lend Him their donkey.
There is a difference between seeing Jesus as your God and seeing Him as your Lord and your God.
Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?”
Genesis 3:1
When the devil came to Eve through the serpent, he removed the word Lord and said, “Has God said.” God was still satan’s God but He is not his lord. Satan is his own lord and does not submit to the lordship of God. This is the first temptation of humanity.
Satan doesn’t mind religion. The devil doesn’t mind your being religious as long as you don’t relate to God as your Lord.
Keep God As Your Lord
In Matthew 26:22-25, when Jesus revealed that He would be betrayed, His disciples said, “Lord, is it I?” Judas however said, “Rabbi, is it I?” To Judas, Jesus was a teacher, to the disciples, He was Lord. That is why they left their lives to follow Him.
When you say Jesus is Lord, you are:
– Acknowledging His ownership.
– In absolute surrender.
– Willing service.
Is Jesus just someone who bails you out all the time or is He your Lord? One of the ways that is tested is not whether we say it but whether we live it (Matthew 7:22).
You can give without loving, but you can't love without giving. Share on X2. Giving to the Lord requires being “loosed” from things.
Saying to them, “Go into the village opposite you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied, and a colt with her. Loose them and bring them to Me.
Matthew 21:2
Greed has a grip, but giving can loosen that grip. When Jesus is your Lord, He will ride your donkey and be the Master of your finances. When Jesus is not your lord, your donkey rides you – greed, money, materialism rule you (Matthew 19:22).
There has to be a loosening before you can be generous but you cannot be loosed until you give.
What Is Greed
- Greed is a selfish and excessive desire for more of something than is needed.
- Greed is the relentless pursuit of self-interest, marked by an arrogant belief that both others and material possessions exist solely for one’s personal gain.
- Greed is less about what you possess and more about what you obsess over (1 Timothy 6:9).
For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
1 Timothy 6:10
God is not against us having wealth, but He is against wealth having us.
Wealth is condemned for 3 reasons:
1. Love for it (1 Timothy 6:10)
2. Trust in it (Mark 10:23-24)
3. Wrong way of obtaining it (Ephesians 4:28)
Giving Is The Antidote To Greed
- Giving looses us from the grip of greed. You cannot be grateful and greedy at the same time.
- Giving feels like a loss, temporarily.
- Giving is a loan to God. God repays the loan (Proverbs 19:17).
3. Donkey (money) is a means to reach the multitudes.
Money is a good means but a bad Master; it is a means, not an end. Share on X“Money is like manure, of very little use except it be spread.”
Francis Bacon
“And a very great multitude spread their clothes on the road; others cut down branches from the trees and spread them on the road. Then the multitudes who went before and those who followed cried out, saying “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the LORD!’ Hosanna in the highest!” And when He had come into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, “Who is this?”
Matthew 21:8-10
Money is a means to reach multitudes with Jesus’ message. When you give your donkey, money, time, talent, and expertise to Jesus, it is for Him to reach the masses. Some gave a donkey, some gave their garments, others gave palm tree branches. What do you have to give to honor Jesus?
